I have an extensive background in art and am proficient in many styles, media and techniques. I worked as a portrait artist for many years and as a sculptor. I decided to use these skills to make book covers and illustrations as I have a great fondness and admiration for literature in all its forms and enjoy the process of creating images to accompany stories and characters and themes.
I use traditional media and techniques in creating cover designs but also use photography and digital manipulation where necessary. One of the main advantages to working in this way is that there is a real, tangible and physical product at the end of it, whereas many digital artists merely have a digital file which needs to be viewed on a screen or printed off in order to be seen. I love the tactile physical nature of the work I do and the fact that there is a unique, single object that can be framed and hung on a wall and which can not be exactly reproduced in a physical sense. I consider the images and sculptures that I make for book covers as one-off works of art in their own right and am always very pleased when authors and publishers ask to purchase the original.
